03 / The year in context
The 2019 Altima opened the L34 generation with a direct-injected 2.5L, the novel VC-Turbo above it, optional AWD, and the Xtronic CVT across the range. The two-chart Nissan system continues, with Schedule 2 as the normal column on this page and Schedule 1 as severe.
New hardware sets the tone for this year. The variable compression mechanism in the VC-Turbo is genuinely new to mass production, which argues for the conservative side of every fluid interval, and the direct-injection fueling on both engines makes oil quality matter more than it did on the port-injected L33.
The CVT remains the known quantity: treat fluid changes as routine maintenance rather than optional, and the transmission generally cooperates. First-year caution plus recall checks by VIN round out the ownership picture.
Shorter intervals
Frequent short trips, towing, dusty roads, extreme temperatures, and long idling shorten the intervals. The severe column in the table above shows by how much; the toggle in the mileage check applies it.
Check severe-use timing04 / Worth knowing
The VC-Turbo varies its own compression ratio, a first in production. It runs best on premium fuel and has little long-term field history at these years; conservative oil intervals are the sensible hedge on novel hardware.
AWD arrived with this generation, paired only with the 2.5L. AWD cars add a rear coupling and differential worth a fluid look by 60,000 miles.
Both engines are direct injected; a rough cold idle creeping in over tens of thousands of miles is usually intake-valve deposits, a known direct-injection trait rather than a defect.
The CVT discipline from earlier Altimas carries over unchanged: NS-3 fluid on a firm 30,000 to 60,000-mile habit.
05 / Cost outlook
Estimated from this schedule over five years or 60,000 miles of normal driving. Parts, labor rates, location, and condition all move the total; treat these as planning figures.

08 / Common questions
The published interval is every 7,500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Under severe conditions such as short trips, towing, dust, or extreme temperatures, the interval drops to 5,000 miles.
Every available engine, the 2.5L I4 (PR25DD, direct injection) and the 2.0L I4 VC-Turbo (KR20DDET), uses a timing chain. There is no scheduled timing belt replacement.
2.5L I4 (PR25DD, direct injection): 0W-20, 5.4 quarts with filter. 2.0L I4 VC-Turbo (KR20DDET): 0W-20, 5 quarts with filter. Confirm the grade printed in the owner's manual before buying.
The schedule calls for spark plugs every 105,000 miles.
Plan on CVT fluid every 60,000 miles, or 30,000 miles under severe use. Use NS-3 fluid only. Given the repair costs of this CVT family, treating 30,000 to 60,000 miles as a firm habit is the cheapest reliability upgrade available.
Engine coolant is first due at 105,000 miles, then every 75,000 miles. The specified coolant is Nissan Long Life (blue).
The driveline adds its own fluids: differential gear oil and, where fitted, transfer case fluid. They are inexpensive services with long intervals under normal use, and much shorter ones under towing or off-road duty. The schedule table lists each with its interval.
Repeated trips under about five miles, extended idling, stop-and-go traffic in heat, dusty or gravel roads, towing, and sustained sub-freezing starts. If a few of those describe a typical week, use the severe column in the table above; most manufacturers write their fine print around exactly that kind of driving.
