Chevrolet runs the GM Oil Life System with a practical ceiling of 7,500 miles or one year, 45,000-mile air filters, 97,500-mile plugs on most engines, and Dexcool coolant plus brake fluid on five-year clocks. Severe duty halves the transmission and axle intervals.
The brand’s V8 trucks carry cylinder-deactivation hardware, AFM and later DFM, whose lifters and oil appetite are the best-known ownership issues. Oil level discipline between changes does more for these engines than any premium product.
