03 / The year in context
The 2019 Escape runs the third-generation compact SUV formula: a base 2.5L, EcoBoost options above it, and the 6F35 6-speed automatic everywhere. The routine follows the oil-life monitor to a 10,000-mile ceiling, rotates tires every 7,500, and holds plugs and first coolant to 100,000.
The item this page flags hardest is invisible on the window sticker: the AWD power transfer unit. Ford lists no service for it, failures are well documented, and the fix at a shop is a small fluid change on a 60,000-mile habit. FWD Escapes skip the concern entirely.
Engine selection sets the tone otherwise. The 2.5L is the low-stress fleet choice, the 1.6L brings the recall history worth checking, and the 2.0L brings the most power and the largest oil bill. Parts for all three are everywhere and cheap.
Shorter intervals
Frequent short trips, towing, dusty roads, extreme temperatures, and long idling shorten the intervals. The severe column in the table above shows by how much; the toggle in the mileage check applies it.
Check severe-use timing04 / Worth knowing
AWD models carry a small power transfer unit that Ford sells as sealed for life. It runs hot, holds under a quart, and has a documented failure history; changing its fluid every 60,000 miles is the cheapest protection available.
The 1.6L EcoBoost family drew coolant-loss and engine-fire recalls in early years of this generation. Any 1.6L Escape deserves a VIN recall check and attention to unexplained coolant loss.
Three engines, two oil specs: the 2.5L and 1.6L take 5W-20 while the 2.0L takes 5W-30 and over a quart more of it.
All three engines are chain driven, so the schedule carries no timing belt line.
2019 is the final third-generation year, so aftermarket coverage for this platform is at its peak.
05 / Cost outlook
Estimated from this schedule over five years or 60,000 miles of normal driving. Parts, labor rates, location, and condition all move the total; treat these as planning figures.

08 / Common questions
The published interval is every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Under severe conditions such as short trips, towing, dust, or extreme temperatures, the interval drops to 5,000 miles.
Every available engine, the 2.5L I4 iVCT and the 1.5L I4 EcoBoost and the 2.0L I4 EcoBoost (twin-scroll), uses a timing chain. There is no scheduled timing belt replacement.
2.5L I4 iVCT: 5W-20, 4.5 quarts with filter. 1.5L I4 EcoBoost: 5W-20, 4.1 quarts with filter. 2.0L I4 EcoBoost (twin-scroll): 5W-30, 5.7 quarts with filter. Confirm the grade printed in the owner's manual before buying.
The schedule calls for spark plugs every 100,000 miles. Heavy towing wears plugs faster, especially on turbocharged engines. Pull one for inspection around 60,000 if the truck works hard.
Plan on automatic transmission fluid every 150,000 miles, or 30,000 miles under severe use. Normal duty is 150,000 miles. Towing, plowing, or fleet duty moves it to 30,000.
Engine coolant is first due at 100,000 miles, then every 50,000 miles. The specified coolant is Motorcraft Specialty Gold.
The driveline adds its own fluids: differential gear oil and, where fitted, transfer case fluid. They are inexpensive services with long intervals under normal use, and much shorter ones under towing or off-road duty. The schedule table lists each with its interval.
Repeated trips under about five miles, extended idling, stop-and-go traffic in heat, dusty or gravel roads, towing, and sustained sub-freezing starts. If a few of those describe a typical week, use the severe column in the table above; most manufacturers write their fine print around exactly that kind of driving.
